Robert Kramer from St. Norbert College will be here to explain the origins of Islam, before discussing some of its central beliefs and teachings. In particular, he will focus on how Islam developed out of Judaism and Christianity, and hence how Islam as a religion regards its fellow monotheists. Given the recent arrival of Afghan Muslim refugees— and the growing number of Muslims in northeast Wisconsin due to normal migration—he will also discuss Islam as a culture including such things as holy days, prayer practices, life-cycle events, dietary preferences, gender roles, ethnic differences, etc. Time will be left to address as many questions as people might have.
Free presentation. No need to RSVP.
